Why is my oven not heating or holding the set temperature?
Gas igniters weaken over time until they no longer draw enough current to open the valve, which shows as a long preheat before an outright failure. On electric ovens a failed element, a tripped thermal limiter or a drifting sensor cause most complaints.

Four things to try before you book

- On gas, watch the igniter through the oven floor vent. A glow that never lights the burner means a weak igniter.
- On electric, look for a break or blister on the bake element.
- Check the oven with a standalone probe thermometer rather than trusting the display.
- Reset the breaker once. Control boards sometimes lock after a power flicker.

If the fault persists or returns within a day, a component has failed and needs to be tested and replaced.
